    Augmented Reality Applied to the Diagnostics and Fruition of Cultural Heritage

    The term “Augmented Reality” (AR) is used to define integrated hardware and software technologies, designed to mix video footage taken by a camera with three-dimensional virtual objects. The result is a mix between real reality and virtual reality. Many applications of this technology are beingdeveloped for use in the field of cultural heritage and are being introduced for use in specialized contexts such as in certain phases of the diagnostic process or fruition. The basic algorithmic approach for augmented reality, starts from a video stream analysis that incorporates a real scene. Within the same scene are scattered a set of known geometric images called“markers”. When the software module in charge of the video flow analysis identifies a marker within the scene, it tries to position it in relation to a reference system integral with the chamber which performs the video shoot, and then replaces it in real time, overlapping with a 3D model achieved through a virtual modeling software. The aim of this article is to evaluate the state of the art augmented reality and then examine several experiments involving its application to cultural heritage

    In the past years, many different new technologies for Cultural Heritage Diagnostic have been developed. In particular laser scanner surveys with digital photogrammetry and also multi-spectral surveys are becoming very useful and inalienable tools for non invasive diagnosis. In the SIDART Project (Integrated System for Cultural Heritage diagnosis), we develop a software able to visualize and elaborate triangulated surfaces coming from high resolution laser scanner survey. In this paper, we want to present the most innovative aspect of our study, that is the possibility to visualize and work in default mode or in immersive Stereoscopy (3D mode). This lets the operator perceive the third dimension and the “virtual investigation” of the object becomes more realistic. This lets us take into consideration in a more simple, natural and correct way and also reduce the possibility to make wrong evaluation due to the false prospective of the classic visualization

    THE EFFECT OF THE PANDEMIC ON THE CARE OF PATIENTS WITH MENTAL DISORDERS: MEASURE OF "COMPASSION FATIGUE" AND "BURN-OUT" IN THE OPERATOR

    Background: The Covid-19 Pandemic has had a significant impact on psychophysical well-being and the ability to work productively in contexts concerning people\u27s physical and mental care. The helping professions involved have seen an increase in stress levels, a sense of helplessness, fear, pain and social isolation. They are anchored to the hope of being able to return to their normality. Method: In this study, 87 mental health operators were evaluated, divided into nurses, psychiatric rehabilitation technicians, educators, social workers, psychologists and doctors, working in two psychiatric care rehabilitation communities in Puglia and Campania in southern Italy. Results: The results obtained with the administration of the scales ProQOL, BHS, Save-9, BDI-II, BEES reported a remarkable impact in nursing and medical professions due to the pandemic. A 11%. burn-out was reported by nurses. Conclusions: The collected data are comparable to the previous work (Franza et al. 2015, 2020); however, there is no evidence of a high level of burnout in the helping professions involved in this study

    Integrazione di building information modeling e realtà aumentata per migliorare l’indagine di edifici storici

    This paper describes an experimental system to support investigation of historical buildings using Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Augmented Reality (AR). The system requires the use of an off-line software to build the BIM representation and defines a method to integrate diagnostic data into BIM. The system offers access to such information during site investigation using AR glasses supported by marker and marker-less technologies. The main innovation is the possibility to contextualize through AR not only existing BIM properties but also results from non-invasive tools. User evaluations show how the use of the system may enhance the perception of engineers during the investigation process.Questa pubblicazione descrive un sistema sperimentale per supportare l’indagine di edifici storici utilizzando Building Information Modeling (BIM) e Realtà Aumentata (AR). Il sistema richiede l’utilizzo di software off-line per realizzare la rappresentazione BIM e definisce un metodo per integrare dati diagnostici in BIM. Il sistema offre accesso a tali dati durante l’indagine del sito usando occhiali AR supportati dalle tecnologie marker e marker-less. L’innovazione principale del sistema è la possibilità di contestualizzare attraverso AR non solo le proprietà BIM esistenti ma anche dati da strumenti non-invasivi.     Background: The continuation of the health emergency due to the management of COVID-19 is having a profound effect on all aspects of society, including mental health and physical health. This observational study examined practitioners of psychiatric rehabilitation and therapeutic communities, focusing on the emotional aspects of patient care, in particular the fatigue of compassion, empathy and lack of hope, aspects that could be directly linked to the burnout of health professionals, as found in other similar studies. Method: In this study, self-administered scale data was collected in 87 healthcare professionals recruited from 3 different psychiatric rehabilitation communities. In particular, we assessed the fatigue of compassion, vicarious trauma, burnout and hope (hopeless), empathy and depressive symptoms in the two months of May and June 2021. Results: The results obtained after the administration of the following rating scales, ProQOL, BHS, SAVE-9, BDI-II and BEES, showed an overall increase in scores in all professional figures, a significant fatigue of compassion, while the percentage burnout is not present in several groups. The presence of high levels of hope, satisfaction of compassion is indicative of a moderate level of empathy in some professional figures; these high levels can protect workers from the risk of developing work-related stress and depressive symptoms. Conclusions: The data obtained with this study are not similar to those of previous studies, although they may indicate the importance of factors such as hope, empathy in the care of the patient with psychic disorders in rehabilitation communities, underlining the need for interventions aimed at the emotional management of the care relationship as a tool to improve care and prevent burnout even during times of high stress, such as managing a pandemic

    Percutaneous Valve-in-Valve Treatment of a (Very Old and Fluoroscopy Invisible) Degenerated Tricuspid Prosthesis Through the Right Jugular Vein Approach

    Tricuspid valve dysfunction adversely affects prognosis and may cause severe symptoms. Among the different opportunity offered by transcatheter techniques, the valve in valve represents an emerging strategy to treat patients with degenerated surgical biological prosthesis. We describe a case report of a percutaneous valve in valve treatment of a very old and fluoroscopy invisible tricuspid degenerated bioprosthesis. In the reported case, pivotal issue for percutaneous valve in valve procedure success was the achievement of perfect alignment between transcatheter valve and degenerated bioprosthesis despite the horizontal right chamber axis and the poor valve visibility. Of note, the combination of jugular vein approach, transapical delivery system rotation, right ventricle guidewire placement, and right atrium angiography made the valve in valve procedure safely

    Exploring the Conformational Landscape of Bioactive Small Molecules

    By using a combination of classical Hamiltonian replica exchange with high-level quantum mechanical calculations on more than one hundred drug-like molecules, we explored here the energy cost associated with binding of drug-like molecules to target macromolecules. We found that, in general, the drug-like molecules present bound to proteins in the Protein Data Bank (PDB) can access easily the bioactive conformation and in fact for 73% of the studied molecules the bioactiveconformation is within 3kBT from the most-stable conformation in solution as determined by DFT/SCRF calculations. Cases with large differences between the most-stable and the bioactive conformations appear in ligands recognized by ionic contacts, or very large structures establishing many favorable interactions with the protein. There are also a few cases where we observed a non-negligible uncertainty related to the experimental structure deposited in PDB. Remarkably, the rough automatic force field used here provides reasonable estimates of the conformational ensemble of drugs in solution.     Bioactive conformational ensemble server and database. A public framework to speed up in silico drug discovery.

    Modern high-throughput structure-based drug discovery algorithms consider ligand flexibility, but typically with low accuracy, which results in a loss of performance in the derived models. Here we present the Bioactive Conformational Ensemble (BCE) server and its associated database. The server creates conformational ensembles of drug-like ligands and stores them in the BCE database, where a variety of analyses are offered to the user. The workflow implemented in the BCE server combines enhanced sampling molecular dynamics with self-consistent reaction field quantum mechanics (SCRF/QM) calculations. The server automatizes all the steps to transform 1D or 2D representation of drugs into three dimensional molecules, which are then titrated, parametrized, hydrated and optimized before being subjected to Hamiltonian replica-exchange (HREX) molecular dynamics simulations. Ensembles are collected and subjected to a clustering procedure to derive representative conformers, which are then analyzed at the SCRF/QM level of theory. All structural data is organized in a noSQL database accessible through a graphical interface and in a programmatic manner through a REST API. The server allows the user to define a private workspace and offers a deposition protocol as well as input files for "in house" calculations in those cases where confidentiality is a must.
